Natural Mineral Clay Mask, Vegan Revolution

Chris and I went along to the recent Sustainable Living Festival in Melbourne as we were presenting a workshop for Green Renters. Whilst we were there we had a bit of an opportunity to pop along to the different stalls and chat to people albieit briefly, as it was very hot and protection from the sun was very minimal. At the Vegetarian Network Victoria stall, Meg from Vegan Revolution kindly gave me a sample of their Natural Mineral Clay Mud Mask. Vegan Revolution sell a variety of products including natural mineral make up, books and also offer workshops and demonstrations on healthy raw food preparation. They operate according to an ethos of reducing negative environmental impacts, evidenced by the fact they transport their stall wares to and from their market stalls in a cargo bike to reduce carbon emissions.

But back to the mask! It came in a small mesh bag which contained a sample of red powder mud in a plastic sachet, a small flyer about the mud and a small flyer about the company. I like the mesh bag as it's something which could be reused but I would've prefered the mask in paperpacking to reduce the use of plastic. But that said, I know that eco-consciousness is hard when you are trying to comply with health and sanitation standards and are selling a product like mud which will turn to mush if it accidentally gets wet!

I would've liked some more info about where the mud was from and why. The product description stated it was a form of 'natural cleansing french clay' and I'm not sure if such clay could have been sourced in Australia, as I'm conscious of carbon miles.

I mixed the clay powder with some water. The quantity wasn't stated so I probably used a bit too much water.

However, it was easy to apply and very easy to remove and left my face feeling happy. Would I buy it? If it could be sourced in Australia, that would be a definite yes. If it can't be sourced locally, well probably still a yes considering how many vegan skin care products are only available on import.
